Set the plate in position with
bolts through the front motor
mount holes and mark
the back holes.

Center-punch the frame
 in the center of the
slotted hole of the plate.

Drill for a 1/4-28 tap / bolt. Usually a set of taps & dies come with a chart telling what size drill to use for each tap. If not, the tap itself should say which size drill to use. I am using fine thread since there isn’t much material here and a coarse thread hole would only have 1 or 2 threads. Using fine thread gives twice as many threads in the hole. Be careful when you put in the bolts. It will be difficult later to drill and heli-coil the holes if you strip them out.

8 Tap for 1/4-28 button head bolts. Be careful as you tap. A broken tap here is a major pain to remove.
9
Insert bolts and snug
up to make sure
everything fits. Now
set the plate aside so
it doesn’t get scratched.
10
Now install the neck
bearing braces.

I do not like to pound these in as I have seen many of the builders do. I just don’t like adding stress of pounding on a frame when it’s not necessary, especially in the neck area. Jim’s Machine makes a tool just for this application. Using this tool, you most likely will not ding the paint either during your final assembly.
